Smoke-Free Local Laws

Chicagoans continue to enjoy the smoke-free air in all restaurants and public workplaces!

It has been our understanding that compliance throughout the City of Chicago has been high. However, if you do happen to witness a violation of the Chicago Clean Indoor Air Ordinance, please dial 311 and register your complaint with the Chicago Department of Public Health.

Since Chicago has gone smoke free, many neighboring communities are following suit. Suburban communities surrounding Chicago and throughout Illinois have begun to take the initiative to protect the health of its citizens from the harms of secondhand smoke. The momentum for smoke free communities has remained high.

The following communities have 100% smoke free laws: Deerfield, DeKalb, Elk Grove Village, Evanston, Hanover Park, Hawthorn Woods, Highland Park, Hinsdale, Hoffman Estates, Indian Head Park, Justice, Lake Forest, Libertyville, Lincolnshire, Lincolnwood, Lindenhurst, Long Grove, Mclean County, Mount Prospect, Niles, Normal, Northbrook, Oak Park, Orland Park, Palatine, Park Forest, Park Ridge, Riverside, Rolling Meadows, Sangamon County, Schaumburg, Skokie, Springfield, Tinley Park, Urbana, Vernon Hills, Westchester, Wheaton, Wheeling, and Wilmette.
