FAN
Fight Asthma Now (FAN)
FAN is an asthma management program. It comes in two versions. FAN for Youth for children in grades 3rd- 6th and FAN for Teens for children in 7th- 12th grade. FAN will help children with asthma understand that asthma is a life long chronic illness that can be managed. We teach youth to be in control of their asthma instead of the asthma controlling them. FAN will give children the asthma knowledge needed to help them learn to take appropriate care of themselves. Children who participate in the program will receive the education and tools they need to care for their asthma. We help children understand what can trigger their asthma and ways to avoid these things. FAN helps teach children how to make the correct choices on when their asthma is in good enough control to attend school.
FAN for Youth is a 3 or 4, 45 minute session program. The structure of the program allows us to teach at the children's learning pace.
FAN for Teens helps teens to understand the social pressures of being a teen and how, by making health a priority, they will be able to have more time for the things they want to do. This program is meant to be taught in three 45 minute sessions. For teens in the 11th and 12th grade we have a 4th session that teaches them to transition to being in charge of their own health in order to help them prepare for living away from home. FAN for Teens will help educate teens on the impact tobacco smoke can have on their asthma and ways to deal with this issue.
