Oral Histories

The Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago celebrated its 100th year anniversary with a reception and the unveiling of a historical traveling exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art on Wednesday, May 10, 2006.

We invited volunteered, donors and staff members--many who had not visited our offices in years--to share their recollections of life at the Association.

We've made a few of their oral histories available below.

  • Marilyn Evans, a current employee, recollects her 40-year career at the Asssociation.
  • Mary Jane Jones Smyth a volunteer active in establishing the Associates Board in the eighties.
  • Joel Africk, President and CEO, shares his personal connection to the mission.
  • Diana Hackbarth, a current Board Member, recalls her advocacy initiatives.

Thanks to Lisa Miller, a freelance reporter at WBEZ, for her interviewing and recording the subjects.
