Metropolitan Chicago Tuberculosis Coalition

Metropolitan Chicago Tuberculosis Coalition (MCTC)

Mission Statement

The mission of the TB Coalition is to create, coordinate, and mobilize a variety of resources to focus on the elimination of tuberculosis in Chicago and the Metro Chicago area.

Summary

MCTC presented a Southside Symposium in October 2000, a Westside Symposium May 2001, and a Northside Symposium October 2001. The purpose for these symposiums was to develop community-based strategies and plans to prevent and ultimately eliminate a major threat to the communities in Chicago through education, targeted testing and treatment.

Since the symposiums the Coalition formed the MCTC Southside Community Planning Group, the MCTC Westside Community Planning Group, and the Northside Community Planning Group. Each of these groups convenes meetings in their own communities to plan strategies and collaborations for the elimination of tuberculosis. The groups consist of community planning groups, faith-based organizations, homeless shelters, correctional facilities, public and private health care providers.

The Coalition continues to organize World TB Day each year; develop and implement educational workshops and materials; and forms collaborative partnerships.
