Research

Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago has two missions that run in parallel -- to educate and advocate for lung health today, and to aid in research that will help future generations live with, cure or prevent lung disease. To that end, we commit a significant portion of our annual budget to research initiatives that show great potential.

Not only are we working to fund the most promising biomedical, social-behavioral and clinical research, we are focused on encouraging greater collaboration between researchers. Our involvement with multi-site Asthma Clinical Research Network is a prime example. When multiple centers work together, individual studies can include greater numbers of subjects and involve greater scientific brainpower more cost efficiently, making the most of every dollar spent.

Each year, research applications are peer reviewed for scientific merit and those which can offer the greatest impact on asthma, lung cancer, COPD and other lung diseases are selected for support. We work with established and up-and-coming researchers to identify and fund important studies that aren't getting support at the government level.

Right now, key initiatives are taking place with doctors at Chicago's outstanding research hospitals, with support from RHAMC.
