Oral Histories

Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago celebrated its 100th year anniversary with a reception and the unveiling of a historical traveling exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art on Wednesday, May 10, 2006.

We invited volunteered, donors and staff members – many of whom had not visited our offices in years – to share their recollections of life at the association.

We've made a few of their oral histories available below:
  • Marilyn Evans, an employee, recollects her 40-year career at the Asssociation.
  • Mary Jane Jones Smyth, a volunteer active in establishing the associates board in the 1980s.
  • Joel Africk, president and CEO, shares his personal connection to the mission.
  • Diana Hackbarth, a current board member, recalls her advocacy initiatives.

Thanks to Lisa Miller, a freelance reporter at WBEZ, for her interviewing and recording the subjects.
