Metropolitan Chicago Tuberculosis Coalition
The purpose of the tuberculosis (TB) coalition is to create, coordinate and mobilize a variety of resources to focus on the elimination of tuberculosis. The coalition organizes World TB Day each year, develops and implements educational workshops and materials, and forms collaborative partnerships.
In 2000 and 2001, MCTC coordinated three community symposiums to strategically plan TB elimination efforts. As a result of the symposiums, the coalition formed the Southside, Westside and Northside community planning groups. Each of these groups convenes meetings in their own communities to plan strategies and collaborations for the elimination of tuberculosis. The community planning groups consist of individuals, faith-based organizations, homeless shelters, correctional facilities and public and private healthcare providers.
