Hustle Helps Haiti
Thank you!
Nearly 250 donors contributed $12,660 in the Hustle Helps Haiti 48-hour challenge! In addition, our medical suppliers have stepped forward to donate nebulizers, asthma peak-flow meters and spacers and other much-needed equipment, all on top of your cash donations.
As a result of this generosity, Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago will provide $6,330 to support Haiti’s relief efforts for lung health, in addition to the donations of our medical suppliers. Thanks to all of you who responded to this special opportunity to make a difference.
About Hustle Helps Haiti
During the 48-hour Hustle Helps Haiti challenge, Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago designated 50% of all online donations to provide medicine and donations for people in Haiti who are living with asthma and other lung diseases.
International relief efforts are currently focused on meeting the immediate needs of people left hungry and homeless after Haiti's recent earthquake, but attention will soon turn to addressing the long-term public health situation. According to data from the World Health Organization, acute respiratory infections (including bronchitis and pneumonia) accounted for 25% of deaths among children under 5 years old in 2001. Given the myriad health issues now facing the country, it is likely that the burden of asthma and other lung diseases on Haiti's families will continue to rise.
We are confident that our partner organizations in Haiti will be able to distribute the medicine and supplies quickly and appropriately through their on-the-ground networks once the supplies arrive.
