Events that challenge, inspire and support
Each year, Respiratory Health Association hosts several events to support our local lung disease research and programs. Beyond providing an exciting way to raise funds and awareness for our cause, our events give you the chance to honor someone you love.
Below are the stories of three individuals who are again participating in our events to honor or remember a loved one. We hope their reasons inspire you to join us soon - these events have special offers through the end of June!This month's issue includes:
Sangita Bhagat has run marathons in several cities, but it wasn't until last year that she participated in one in her home town of Chicago. She ran with Lung Power Team in memory of her father, Shantilal, who passed away from respiratory failure and pneumonia in March 2011. Even though her father's right was over, she saw the team as a way to help others. Read more of Sangita's story.

For Ronette Ksiazak, the hardest part of Skyline Plunge! Chicago wasn't rappelling 27 stories down theWit Hotel. It was the fact that her father, Ronald, couldn't be there to cheer her on. Ronette and her husband, Mike, rappel in honor of Ronald, who was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in August 2011. Read more of Ronette's story.

Ira Graham, 85, cycles 60 miles through Illinois and Southern Wisconsin each August - a feat at any age. He participates in the first day of CowaLUNGa Bike Tour in memory of his wife, Helen Baer Graham, who passed away from lung cancer in 1998. When she died, it wasn't just Ira who lost someone special, but the many people in Chicagoland who knew her as the "Gingerbread Lady." Read more of Ira's story.
