On Wednesday, April 18, 2012, more than 50 volunteer advocates hopped on a bus to Springfield, Ill., for our State Advocacy Day.
Throughout the day, they met with elected officials to discuss important lung health policies and gather support for:
- requiring all new homes built in Illinois to include radon-resistant construction techniques
- requiring child care centers to test for radon every three years
- taxing commercial roll-your-own tobacco machines at a rate comparable to commercially manufactured cigarettes, thus reducing the appeal and accessibility of tobacco to young people
- encouraging more policies that support people living with COPD
In addition, advocates urged legislators to prohibit any exemptions to our smoke-free Illinois law, and to oppose a bill that would permit the construction of a new coal-fired power plant in Illinois.
Stay informed and join us to urge action for important lung health issues. Visit our e-advocacy website now to sign up for e-alerts.
