Evaulation criteria

Applicants must be a student, resident, or fellow to be eligible for the Howard Levine Research Award. Applications will be judged by members of Chicago Respiratory Society and scored on a scale of 1 (best) to 5 (worst). Based on the abstract, the committee will select the five most competitive papers in each category. The final awards will be selected from these five after the authors have presented their data to members of the committee at the abstract session.

Award

Two abstracts in which the first author is a fellow or other research trainee judged to be the best in clinical research and bench science will each receive the Harold Levine Research Award, $300 and the opportunity for a brief presentation on their research during the Abstract Session.

Dr. Harold Levine (1930-1976) was an esteemed clinician, teacher and scholar in the Chicago
pulmonary community. He was dedicated to the provision of compassionate medical care for all
individuals.

In Levine's honor, his family and friends established a memorial fund, which supported Chicago Respiratory Society programming including the annual Harold Levine Research Award and lecture. This award recognizes the importance of promoting the latest clinical and basic research findings and new treatment methods in pulmonary medicine.
